Python Job: Grant-Funded Researcher (A) - Bioinformatics

(Level A) $72,829 to $97,927 or (Level B) $102,952 to $121,779 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed term full time position available for 1 year with possibility of extension.

A research team in the Dame Roma Mitchell Cancer Research Laboratories (DRMCRL), and Robinson Research Institute (RRI), University of Adelaide, is seeking a bioinformatician to join an international, multidisciplinary collaborative research program investigating mechanisms of hormonal regulation of gene expression. This team studies mechanistic aspects of steroid hormone receptor action to develop therapies for breast and prostate cancers as well as for reproductive function and contraception.

Reporting to the DRMCRL Director, the bioinformatician will be integral to experimental design of multi-omic (ie. ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, proteomic and metabolomic) discovery research projects and analysis and integration of large ‘omic datasets. The successful applicant will work closely with investigators in both the DRMCRL and RRI as well as their national and international collaborative partners. The appointee will integrate with a team of specialist bioinformaticians in the University of Adelaide.

The successful applicant will have a commitment to the application of bioinformatics in hormone action research and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations at local, national and international meetings.

Selection Criteria:

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

• Masters or PhD degree in bioinformatics or computational biology
• Experience in the use of open source bioinformatics software for processing and analysis of large scale ‘omic (e.g. ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq) data
• Experience in using R and Python for bioinformatics analysis of large scale ‘omics data and familiarity with Linux systems
• Experience in the analysis and integration of genome-wide datasets such as bulk RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq/ CUT&Tag-seq.
• Experience in statistical methods and graphical depictions applicable to large datasets

To be considered at Level B, the applicant would also need:

• Strong track record of high-quality publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
• Techniques for reproducible research and version control, including but not limited to experience generating knitr reports, GitHub repositories, and R package development.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, including leading research, where applicable in cancer systems and/or developmental biology using high throughput genomics.
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation of successful proposal submissions to external funding bodies.
• Demonstrated capacity to supervise students.
